Many parents will find this an inconvience and adopting new ways of thinking will take time - it is important to challenge the culture around physical activity and active travel.

I would be more than delighted if doonholm rd were to be shut off at school times as I live right next to the school and experience inconsiderate parking all day from which appears to be staff members .there used to be zigzag marking which have never been replaced and I have asked for repeatedly.Also the difficulty in getting in and out your drive onto which has now potentially became a one way road is dangerous especially if it’s a large vehicle.Parents should be encouraged to drop there children off near a lollipop man and they will make sure the children get to school safely.I would welcome a one way system or parking at burns carpark to avoid congestion ,children and parents will only benefit from this .

As a local resident living nearby the old Ayr Academy, I'm unaware of your plans as to how to manage new traffic in the area bringing kids to the new Ayr Grammar. Please note, kids were bussed in to the Academy, so there was less individual drop offs. This wont be the same when the Grammar moves into the site. Please publish your plans, so local residents can learn what to expect when the new school opens.

The volume of traffic around both the secondary and primary schools is ridiculous, as is evidenced by the ease of getting from a to b on a day when schools are closed. If you want children to get fit, get them out of the cars! A one way system won't work, as all you would be doing is displacing the cars onto already busy adjacent streets and/or Prestwick Main Street. The volumes of traffic are not just as a result of school traffic. The Main Street and North/South Adamton Road are already overrun by cars and other vehicles coming down from Irvine direction on the A78 and using Prestwick as a through route instead of using the A77 to Ayr, as intended. When the improved Spaceport transport links are in place, perhaps traffic volumes will be diverted away from Prestwick as the bypass originally intended!

Why do you feel this way?

I think this is an excellent idea and I fully support it. At the moment cars are parked on the pavements, drivers driving in an aggressive manner, speeding etc. etc. The pavements are too narrow at the best of times with the parents and kids trying to get to and leave the school area. The above is a major hinderance to active travel and social distancing. The situation has got worse during Covid 19. Also, the school bike sheds need to be opened at Alloway again.

basically it is chaos every day. Add in speed of traffic and size of vehicles which are now too wide for the roads

Serious changes need to be made - advice and signs will not work. It has been tried but everyone ignored polite requests. Basically road space needs reallocated and parking restricted. Luckily in Alloway we have large empty car parks nearby at the Burns museum and burns cottage - people could park and walk
