Help identify solutions for South Ayrshire's largest Town Centres

UPDATE – A plan and visualisation for temporary measures in Ayr High Street is now available. We would invite you to view the proposals in the “Additional materials” section below, and provide any comments you wish to make.We have been awarded funding for temporary measures to support physical distancing within South Ayrshire&#39;s largest town centres and to support active travel for essential journeys.Initial interventions will be restricted to the following largest towns and streets, however the form at the bottom of the page can be used to suggest additional streets within the 5 towns.<img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/c_limit,w_1024/v1594753606/projects/spacesforpeoplesouthayrshire/2f0b6cdd-2d46-4567-9ee5-ee2eee93a9ec.png" />To help achieve these aims we are taking action to implement various measures which may consist of some or all of the following:<li>Suspension of on-street parking to provide temporary widening of footways;</li> <li>Temporary reallocation of road space to provide facilities for cycling;</li> <li>Temporary road closures to all motorised vehicles;</li> <li>Temporary speed limit reductions on certain roads to improve cyclist safety; and</li> <li>The installation of temporary cycle parking at key destinations to meet increased demands</li>We would like to hear from you about locations where you are aware of it being difficult to physically distance and where these measures could be helpful. Please be as specific as you can when answering the questions below.

Update - Plans are now available for proposed temporary measures at Forehill Primary School and Kingcase Primary School. We would invite you to view the proposal in the &quot;Additional materials&quot; section below, and provide any comments you wish to make.Funding is available to introduce measures that support physical distancing on the main road at or near school entrances and at School Crossing Patrol locations.As part of the Spaces for People programme, we plan a phased approach to the consideration and implementation of temporary measures.Phase 1We are now in a position to share proposals for the first two schools in Phase 1 – Forehill Primary and Kingcase Primary, see below. We would invite you to view these proposals and provide any comments you may have using the form at the bottom of this page.We hope to be in a position to share proposals for the remaining schools within phase 1 shortly. The remaining Phase 1 primary schools include:<li>Monkton Primary</li> <li>Heathfield Primary</li> <li>Alloway Primary</li> <li>Doonfoot Primary</li>Also as part of phase 1, we will be considering temporary measures around the following secondary schools in South Ayrshire:<li>Prestwick Academy</li> <li>Kyle Academy</li> <li>Belmont Academy</li>Phase 2In Phase 2 we would like to implement more school streets identified by you where these measures would be supported by parents, residents and the school. Help identify our busiest bus stops

We have funding for temporary measures to support physical distancing at busy bus shelters throughout South Ayrshire. Whilst bus usage is currently lower than it was, as restrictions continue to ease this will begin to increase. Measures could include removing parking to create extra footway space and relocating shelters.In partnership with Stagecoach and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) we are already installing physical distancing posters in all bus shelters throughout South Ayrshire. Funding is available to introduce measures that support physical distancing on the main road at or near school entrances and at School Crossing Patrol locations. We are considering the following temporary interventions:<li>School Street – (Part Time Road Closure) All traffic is prohibited from driving on a certain street or part of a certain street at school start and finish times. Exemption permits would be available for residents. Blue badge holders would also be exempt from the restriction. <a href="http://schoolstreets.org.uk/">School streets</a> have been implemented in a number of locations in the UK, including in <a href="https://www.streetsaheadedinburgh.org.uk/">Edinburgh</a> . </li> <li>One Way system with Road Space Reallocation – Part of the street is dedicated to walking, cycling and wheeling (at all times). This means that the vehicular traffic would be restricted to travelling in one direction only (on the part of the street kept open). This vehicle lane would be deliberately quite narrow to ensure that speeds are kept low.</li> <li>Parking Restrictions – to make it easier for pedestrians to pass each other on the footway, parking would be restricted. This may be at all times, or at school start and finish times only. </li> <li>Physical Distancing Signage – signs and carriageway markings reminding people to maintain appropriate physical distancing would be provided at regular intervals near the school entrance and at School Crossing Patrol locations.</li><img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:eco,w_1024/v1594976336/projects/spacesforpeoplesouthayrshire/d6de3a9f-3037-4742-bb35-841ac1e21d0a.png" />We plan a phased approach to implementing these measures.Phase 1In phase 1 we plan to trial temporary School Streets as soon as we can at 6 primary schools in South Ayrshire and residents in the roads affected by these proposals will be contacted shortly with more information. This initial trial will help us to learn more about the initiative and the impact that it has on the local community. Help identify solutions for our other towns and villages

We have been awarded funding for temporary measures to support physical distancing within our smaller towns and villages. The temporary measures can be implemented at local shops and services such as pharmacies, post offices, banks and to support active travel for essential journeys. We plan to implement some localised measures to assist with specific problems. Measures could include removing parking to create extra footway space, enforcing existing parking restrictions, providing physical distancing information, or providing additional cycle parking.<img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:eco,w_1024/v1594823625/projects/spacesforpeoplesouthayrshire/c894cc4d-48fd-4102-bc9e-97ad86332200.png" />We would like to hear from you about locations where you think these measures could be helpful. The Esplanade in Ayr is already a popular destination. During the Covid-19 lockdown there has been a significant increase in people walking and cycling there. The Esplanade provides on-street car parking next to the beach which on good weather days is very busy.
